Crathes Station
The original Crathes station was built by the
Deeside Railway. The platforms are still in place,
but the Signal Box constructed on the Northern
platform is a replica, constructed as a summer
house by the adjacent house owner, in an extension
to his garden.
As of April 2020, the summer house is somewhat
dilapidated. It is understood that an architect and
builder have been retained by the owner, although
progress is delayed by Covid-19.
Mention must be made of the House of Lords ruling
which was necessary to arbitrate a dispute between
the Laird of Crathes and the Deeside Railway over
whether their agreement for any trains to stop at his
private platform when hailed by him, also applied to
the Queen’s Messenger (tbc)
