The Deeside Line : Scotland’s Royal Railway
The Deeside Line : Scotland’s Royal Railway, by Keith Fenwick, ISBN 978-0902343-35-1, published 2023, 88pp, B5 softback (43 colour and 72 B/W illustrations) The Deeside Line ran from Aberdeen up the Dee Valley to Ballater. Originally built by the independent Deeside Railway, the line became part of the GNSR, then the LNER from 1923 and subsequently the Scottish Region of BR from 1948. Modern traction in 1958 brought hope of a bright future but that was only temporary and the line closed in 1966. Today the Deeside Way makes use of much of the trackbed and the heritage railway at Milton of Crathes gives people the chance to ride a train on part of the track. This book is a completely revised publication, based on Royal Deeside’s Railway (published by GNSRA in 1996).
