Railways of Buchan
Railways of Buchan, by Keith Fenwick and Douglas Flett, ISBN 978-0902343-34-4, published 2022, 96pp, B5 softback. The Buchan Lines ran north from the GNSR main line at Dyce to serve Peterhead and Fraserburgh. Later branches served Cruden Bay and St. Combs. They served a rich farming area as well as the two important fishing ports. The Cruden line, never a success, closed first. Passenger services ceased on the rest of the system in 1965 and the last freight service was withdrawn as late as 1979. Today, much of the trackbed is the very popular Formartine & Buchan Way. Maud station is the site of an enterprising small railway museum.
