GNSR Coaches

Diagramme 20. The Great North possessed a varied selection of coaches. Coaches built at Inverurie for through services were as good as those found anywhere else but local trains sufficed with a mixed collection of 4 and 6 wheelers. A high proportion survived into LNER days and many coach bodies then found new uses on the farms of the north east.

It has been possible to identify nearly all the coaches owned by the Company and details can be found in two of the Abstracts published by the Association. No.25 describes the various types of coach and gives dimensional detail. No.29 provides full number lists. A more comprehensive history is in preparation.

Many of the surviving coach bodies have been photographed in detail. A selection of these photos is available at
Diagramme 29.
